Early Life

Zanele Potelwa was born in the Transkei (Mthatha) Eastern Cape, and her formative years were spent in East London. She pursued her education at the University of Pretoria, where she earned a Bachelor of Communication degree.

Early Career and 5FM

Zanele embarked on her career journey as a mentee at 5FM in January 2016, undertaking various tasks from administrative work to event support. Her dedication and passion quickly earned her a role on the Roger Goode Show, initially as a traffic presenter, and within a year, she secured her own weekday lunchtime show.

Following her stint at TuksFM as The Drive Time show host in 2018, Zanele joined 947 as part of the 947 Crew, contributing as an on-air presenter on weekends. Her role included being a correspondent and part of the ‘on the ground’ crew for 947, covering exciting events in and around Johannesburg.

Recognition at Liberty Radio Awards

In 2019, Zanele’s contributions to the radio industry were acknowledged as she received the “Bright Stars Award” at the Liberty Radio Awards.

Zanele Potelwa Television Career

Zanele entered the spotlight in 2017 as the Runner-Up in the “Mzansi Insider TV Presenter Search.” Subsequently, she became a guest presenter on Selimathunzi, a popular celebrity entertainment show on SABC 1. In early 2020, Zanele assumed the role of the main TV presenter for Selimathunzi.

In 2023, Zanele Potelwa took on a new challenge by joining the Expresso Morning Show as a new host, expanding her presence in the television landscape. She recently bagged a hosting gig on Tropika Island of Treasure. She is going to be hosting Tropika Island of Treasure season 11.
