Biography: Vusi Kunene is a South African actor who has starred in many films and television shows. He is popular for his role as Jack Mabaso in Generations and Generations: The Legacy.

Vusi Kunene was born on April 12, 1966, in Meadowlands, Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa. He was actually born on Friday the 13th, but one of the nurses thought this was bad luck and changed it to the 12th.

Vusi grew up in a poor family and developed a passion for acting at a young age. He attended Shell Road to Fame School of the Arts, where he discovered his love for the theatre arts. In 1991, he enrolled at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, where he studied Dramatic Art. He starred in many stage productions during his time at the university, such as The Hill.

Vusi Kunene Acting Career

The actor started his professional career in 1993 when he featured in three television films while still studying. He was spotted by agent Moonyeenn Lee, who helped him land more roles in the industry. He made his film debut in 1995 when he appeared in Waati and Cry, the Beloved Country. Vusi then starred in several other films, such as Kini and Adams (1997), A Reasonable Man (1999), The King Is Alive (2000), Final Solution (2001), The First Grader (2010), Paradise Stop (2011), Elelwani (2012), and A United Kingdom (2016).

However, Vusi is prominent for his roles in television shows, especially as a villain. He rose to fame for his role as Jack Mabaso in Generations and its continuation, Generations: The Legacy. He played the ruthless and powerful businessman who was involved in many criminal activities and feuds with other characters. Vusi left the show in 2021 after five years of portraying the iconic character.

He also played Bhekifa in Isibaya (2012-2016), Jefferson Sibeko in Isidingo (2009-2014), and Chief Paul Lebone in Jacob’s Cross (2007-2013). Currently, he also played Funani Zwide in House of Zwide. he also joined Shaka Ilembe in 2023 as King of the Tsonga.

Kunene has received many accolades for his acting skills. In 2011, he won the Golden Horn Award for Best Actor for his role in Soul City. He has received nominations for several other awards, such as the Royalty Soapie Awards.


Personal Life

Kunene is very private about his personal life and does not reveal much about his family or relationships. He is rumoured to be married and has two children, but he has not confirmed or denied these claims.  He is also a philanthropist and supports various causes, such as education and health.
