Early Life and Family
Not much is known about Trevor Gumbi’s early life and family, except that he has a brother named Sphe Ngwenya, who is also known as DJ SPHEctacular. He grew up in Durban and developed an interest in comedy and entertainment.
Trevor Gumbi Career and Achievements
Gumbi started his TV career as a co-host and voice-over artist for the Mzansi Magic entertainment magazine show Headline, which ran from 2010 to 2013. He also wrote monthly columns for Campus Cosmo and Cosmopolitan magazines, where he portrayed an agony uncle and a helpful professor. He was voted one of South Africa’s Twitter Kings in Cosmopolitan magazine’s January 2011 issue.
As a stand-up comedian, Trevor Gumbi has performed at several major comedy events in the country, such as Oppikoppi, Rocking the Daisies, King-size comedy jams, Blacks Only, Laugh out Loud, and Arts Alive comedy festival. He also appeared on Comedy Central Presents… Live at Parker’s in 2013.
As an actor, Trevor Gumbi has starred in several sitcoms and shows, such as Ses’Top La, where he played Gideon Gwinyimbuzi, a dim-witted security guard; Msawawa True South with Trevor Gumbi, where he hosted a travel show; Van ‘n Sit, where he played Thomas Gumbi, a humble man in love with a wealthy woman; The Sober Companion, where he played a recovering addict who helps others; and Rented Family, where he played Zach, a washed-up former soap star.
Trevor Gumbi has also been nominated for a Golden Horn Award for Best Actor in a TV Drama for his role in Rockville, a crime drama series.

Trevor Gumbi Personal Life and Controversies
Gumbi was married to Lucille Gumbi, a businesswoman and producer, for 11 years. They have two children, Jodie and Jamie. However, they divorced in 2017 after Trevor admitted to cheating on her multiple times. He has since been open about his struggles with addiction, depression, and suicidal thoughts.
Trevor Gumbi has also been involved in some controversies, such as being accused of stealing jokes from other comedians, being arrested for drunk driving, and being sued for unpaid debts.
Trevor has since beat his drug addiction and has a new wife, Nande Ngxola, since 2020.
