Tina Jaxa is a renowned South African actress best known for her role as Eve Sisulu in the sitcom Madam & Eve. Her versatility and talent have made her a prominent figure in South African television and film.

Early Life

Tina Jaxa, born Albertina Jaxa, was born on October 27, 1970, in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. Not much is known about her educational background.

Early Career

Tina Jaxa began her acting career in 1993 when she featured in the first episode of the SABC1 soap opera Generations. Her role in Generations marked the beginning of a varied and colorful career predominantly in television.

Breakthrough and Success

After several seasons on Generations, Jaxa joined the SABC3 soap opera Isidingo, following a guest-starring role in Tarzan: The Epic Adventures. She played Lorraine Dhlomo in Isidingo for three years and returned to the show in 2004 after a hiatus. During her career, she has acted in a wide range of television dramas and comedies, including Khululeka, Charlie Jade, Montana, The Final Verdict, Chandies, Stokvel, and the second season of Intersexions.

Iconic Roles

Jaxa took over the role of Eve Sisulu in the sitcom Madam & Eve from Motshabi Tyelele from the second season onwards. Her portrayal received positive reviews and became one of her most notable roles. She has also appeared in films such as Oddball Hall, The Bird Can’t Fly, and I Now Pronounce You Black and White. In 2013, she won an Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the romantic thriller Of Good Report.

Hiatus and Return

In January 2014, Jaxa announced a hiatus from acting, which lasted nine months. She returned to the small screen in 2017, debuting on’s Rhythm City as Andiswa, a small-time criminal. Since her return, she has appeared in television shows such as Shreds and Dreams, Isikizi, 90 Plein Street, Ashes to Ashes, Nkululeko, and the soap opera Rhythm City.

Recent Work

From 2015 to 2016, Jaxa starred in the critically acclaimed original telenovela series Gold Diggers as May Gumede, receiving a South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA) for Best Actress. In 2016, she had roles in two drama series: Isikizi, for which she received a SAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actress, and Ashes to Ashes.

In 2019, Jaxa appeared as Noma in the SABC 1 comedy-drama Makoti. Her recent work includes roles in Durban Gen as Nomvula Jack.

Theatre Work

Jaxa has also appeared in notable theatre productions, including Skewe Sirkel, directed by Marthinus Basson; Rygrond, directed by Charles Fourie; and Soweto, directed by Phyllis Klotz.

Personal Life

Marriage and Divorce

In 2000, Jaxa married engineer Prosper Mkwaiwa at Usambara Wedding Village, near Krugersdorp. The couple had two children together but later divorced after 15 years of marriage. In 2015, following the death of her ex-husband, Jaxa was involved in a controversy with Tina Dlangwana, Mkwaiwa’s second wife, over who was the lawful spouse.

At the time of reporting, her marital status is not readily known. However, she is not single.

Assault Incident

In February 2015, Jaxa was allegedly assaulted by her then 19-year-old son. The actress opened two assault cases against her son after he attempted to physically assault her when she refused to give him money.
