Thembinkosi Mthembu Biography: Early Life | Education | Acting Career | Achievements | Personal Life

Thembinkosi Mthembu is a South African actor who has been making waves in the television industry since 2017. He is best known for his roles in the popular serials Adulting, The River, The Gamechangers, Kalushi: The Story of Solomon Mahlangu and a short film called Ngeculo.

 

Early Life and Education

Thembinkosi Brian Mthembu was born on 31 July 1994 in the village of KwaNdengezi, Durban, South Africa. He lost both his parents at a young age and had to work as an illegal diamond miner to survive. He was arrested and attacked by police dogs, leaving him with scars on his body.

He turned to drama as a way to escape his situation and pursue his dream of becoming a fighter. He graduated from Nilgiri Secondary School and obtained a diploma in drama and production studios from Durban University of Technology in 2017. He was the recipient of a cameo award presented to him by the honorary Dawn Thandeka King. While at DUT, he participated in many theatre plays, where his superiors recognised his talents.

After completing his diploma, he moved to the City of Gold in Johannesburg to pursue an acting career. He worked at Shoprite Checkers and Cell C as a dancer before landing his first TV role. He played Junior in the Mzansi Magic drama series The Republic in 2017, where he made his TV debut.

He continued to land roles in the popular series The River, The Gamechangers, Kalushi: The Story of Solomon Mahlangu, and a short film called Ngeculo. He also appeared as Shift Manager on the MTV Base drama series MTV Shuga Down South 2 in 2019.

In 2020, he received the role of Malusi in Ngeculo, a TV short film. In that same year, he was nominated by the Kwa-Zulu Natal Entertainment Awards for Best Male Actor, Male Villain, and Outstanding Newcomer for his contributions to South African television.

He is currently starring as King Dingiswayo in the viral drama Shaka iLembe and as Bonga Tembe in the TV short series Adulting.

He resides in Johannesburg and is a devout father of a beautiful girl who was born in 2019. He keeps his love life under wraps, and little is known about his relationships. His sister, Nontuthuko Ntuthu, sadly passed away in 2015.

He has the cutest dimple on his left cheek, which earned him the nickname Mr Dimples. He is passionate about soccer and supports Manchester United. He is also a fan of The Rock, whom he considers as his role model.
