Thembi Seete was born in Soweto, Gauteng, South Africa. She grew up in Sebokeng in the Vaal, where she was raised by her aunt and uncle. Sadly, her father passed away in 2014, and her mother, Rebecca Seete, succumbed to a brain tumor in July 2021. Thembi has a sibling named Moagi Seete.
Career
Seete’s career took off in 1994 when she became one of the members of the influential kwaito supergroup called Boom Shaka. The group enjoyed tremendous success and became one of South Africa’s most popular musical acts at the time. Seete continued to perform with Boom Shaka until the group disbanded in 2000.
Solo Music Career
Following the split of Boom Shaka, Seete embarked on a successful solo career. In 2000, she made her debut in the film industry, appearing in the movie “Hijack Stories” in a minor role. She also joined the cast of the SABC1 drama series “Yizo Yizo” and contributed to its soundtrack with the track “Sure Ntombazana” for the second season. During this time, she showcased her singing abilities by releasing her debut solo album, “Lollipop” in 2001.
