This is the biography of  Thapelo Sebogodi, he is a South African actor best known for his portrayal of Khabzela on Mzansi Magic’s The River. He has established his own identity in the entertainment industry through his appearances in various television shows and theatre plays. He is the eldest son of the veteran actor Seputla Sebogodi, who is also well-known in the acting world.

Early Life and Education

Thapelo Sebogodi was born in Atteridgeville in 1988. He attended Greenwood College and Max Stibbe for his education. After completing his secondary education, Thapelo enrolled at Tshwane University of Technology, where he pursued a degree in drama. Despite having a famous father, Thapelo never relied on his dad’s name for interviews and auditions, and only a few people knew about his connection to Seputla. Interestingly, Thapelo initially explored other career paths, including retail business and politics, before fate led him to pursue acting.

Thapelo Sebogodi Family

Thapelo Sebogodi comes from a polygamous family and has three siblings. His siblings include Kgothatso Sebogodi, Sebogosi Sebogodi, and Thabang Sebogodi. Thapelo and Kgothatso share the same mother, while Sebogosi and Thabang have different mothers. Thapelo’s father, Seputla Sebogodi, is a renowned actor in his own right.

Early Career Beginnings

Although Thapelo initially had no interest in following in his father’s footsteps, he often accompanied him to sets and theatres. However, his mindset changed when he and Kgothatso were cast in a Suburban Bliss movie, which turned out to be a fantastic experience for them. Thapelo began to realize how his father’s fame and influence had unknowingly paved the way for his own acting career. He jokingly said that he was “fostered without [his] knowledge or consent.”

Thapelo Sebogodi Career

Thapelo  has made a name for himself through his involvement in various television shows and theatrical productions. He made his onscreen debut in 2012 on SABC1’s reality series Life’s a Stage. He then went on to appear in shows such as Greed & Desire, Afrikaans mini-series Donkerland, and the acclaimed Telenovela, The River, where he portrayed the character of Khabzela. Thapelo also shared the stage with his father in the play Flak My Son, which was staged at the State Theatre in Pretoria.

Thapelo Sebogodi’s talent has also taken him beyond local productions, as he has appeared in international movies and shows. He gained global recognition for his role in the series Strike Back and has continued to expand his acting career.

He recently added to his impressive resume by securing a role on House of Zwide, where he portrays the character of Kopano, a complex villain. This role further demonstrates Thapelo’s versatility and range as an actor.
