This is the biography of Sanele Tresure Sithole, professionally known by his stage name as Sun-El Musician. He holds renown as a multi-talented South African DJ, music producer, and songwriter. He gained widespread recognition for his hit song “Akanamali” featuring Samthing Soweto.

Early Life

Sun-El Musician was born in the town of Mooi River, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. His mother raised him alongside his four siblings. Sun-El Musician attended the University of KwaZulu-Natal but dropped out in 2007.

Sun-El Musician Career

After leaving university, Sun-El Musician spent two years at home and began his musical career in 2007 by remixing songs and creating mixtapes. During this time, he crossed paths with Thandukwazi Demor Sikhosana, who signed him under his record label, Demor Music (Pty) Ltd. He worked as a music producer for a period of five years, collaborating with artists such as Bucie from 2011 to 2014 and producing three albums for Demor.

Establishing EL World Music

In early 2017, Sun-El Musician established his own music label called EL World Music. Under this label, he began creating his own music under the name “Sun-El Musician.” He released his debut single, “Akanamali,” featuring Samthing Soweto, on May 21, 2017. The song became his breakthrough hit, reaching number one on Shazam and earning a Platinum certification in South Africa.

Following the success of “Akanamali,” Sun-El Musician released “Bamthathile” featuring Mlindo the Vocalist as the second single from his debut album. The album, titled “Africa to the World,” was released on April 20, 2018, and achieved Platinum status in South Africa.

Several singles from the album, including “Sonini,” “Bamthathile,” and “Ntab’Ezikude,” received 2× Platinum certifications from (RiSA). In June 2018, Sun-El Musician’s single “Akanamali” won three awards at the 24th South African Music Awards, including Best Collaboration, Highest Airplay Song, and Highest Airplay Composer. The album “Africa to the World” received a nomination at the 25th South African Music Awards in June 2019.

In June 2019, Sun-El Musician collaborated with Ami Faku on the single “Into Ingawe.” The song was certified 3× Platinum by RiSA. He embarked on an extensive tour of South Africa in the same year.

In April 2020, Sun-El Musician released the lead single “Uhuru” from his upcoming album, featuring South African singer Azana. He released the second single, “Ubomi Abumanga,” featuring Msaki, in May 2020. The song received a 2× Platinum certification from the Recording Industry of South Africa.

In July 2020, Sun-El Musician collaborated with Khuzani and Simmy on the single “Emoyeni” to celebrate Ukhozi FM’s 60th Anniversary.

His second studio album, titled “To the World & Beyond,” was released on December 4, 2020. The album achieved Platinum status in South Africa.

Recent Projects

On October 29, 2021, Sun-El Musician released “African Electronic Dance Music” in South Africa. The album showcased his experimentation with electronic dance music styles infused with elements of Afro house. It featured four singles, including “Higher,” “Amateki/Ululate,” and “Woza.” “African Electronic Dance Music” received critical acclaim and was listed as number one on The 30 Best Albums of 2021 year-end lists by Pan-African Music.

The album received three nominations, including Album of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, and Best Dance Album, at the 28th South African Music Awards. In December 2021, Sun-El Musician headlined the Basha Uhuru Creative Uprising Festival alongside Langa Mavuso.

In the same year, Gallo Records selected Sun-El Musician to remix classic songs on the Extended Play titled “Music is Forever” in collaboration with Nobuhle, Muzi, and other artists.

Sun-El Musician headlined the Bassline I AM LIVE concert in May 2022, and, he performed at the MTN Bushfire Festival in Malkerns Valley.

In December 2022, Sun-El Musician announced his upcoming project, “AEDM: Interstellar” (pronounced African Electronic Dance Music: Interstellar), set to be released in 2023. He released a double single, “Makwande” with Fk Mash and Ami Faku, as well as “Rata” with TNS and Skillz, on December 9, 2022.

In April 2023, Sun-El Musician and Msaki teased a single called “Amandla” through a snippet video clip and announced its release date in October. The song was eventually released on November 3, 2023.
