This is the biography of Slikour, a South African rapper, musician, and media entrepreneur. He is best known as one of the founding members of the influential hip-hop group Skwatta Kamp, which won several awards and sold over 25,000 copies of their album Mkhukhu Funkshen. He is also the founder and CEO of SlikourOnLife, a digital platform that showcases and connects African urban culture.

Early Life and Career

Slikour was born Siyabonga Themba Metane on April 13, 1981, in Leondale, Johannesburg, South Africa. He grew up in a musical family, as his father was a jazz pianist and his mother was a singer. He developed a passion for rap music at a young age and started writing his own lyrics. Slikour met some of his future Skwatta Kamp members at school and formed a rap crew called Rhyme Crime Syndicate. They later changed their name to Skwatta Kamp and released their debut album, Khot En Joyn, in 2002.

Skwatta Kamp became one of the most successful and influential hip-hop groups in South Africa, blending local languages, slang, and social commentary with catchy beats and rhymes. They released four albums and a mixtape, winning numerous awards and nominations, such as the South African Music Award for Best Rap Album in 2003 and 2004. Slikour was one of the main lyricists and vocalists of the group, along with Nish, Shugasmakx, Flabba, Nemza, Bozza, and Infa.

Slikour Solo Projects and Ventures

Slikour left Skwatta Kamp in 2009 to pursue his solo career and other ventures. He released his first solo album, Ventilation Mixtape Vol. 1, in 2005, followed by Ventilation Mixtape Vol. 2 in 2007 and Ventilation Mixtape Vol. 3 in 2010. His solo albums featured collaborations with other artists, such as Zola, RJ Benjamin, Proverb, and Kabelo. The rapper also started his own record label and artist management company, Buttabing Entertainment, in 2002, which helped launch the careers of artists like L-Tido, Morale, and Kwesta.

In 2013, Slikour co-hosted a reality dance show on e.tv, Step Up or Step Out, with Khabonina Qubeka. He also became involved in various social and educational initiatives, such as the Global Fresh Collective campaign, which brought together creative thinkers from around the world to promote emerging talents and cultures. He also partnered with the Department of Education to distribute his Ventilation Mixtape Vol. 4 for free to high school students, as a way of encouraging them to pursue their dreams and passions.

In 2014, Slikour launched SlikourOnLife, a digital platform that showcases and connects African urban culture, music, fashion, and lifestyle. The platform features exclusive interviews, videos, podcasts, news, and downloads from various artists and influencers across the continent. SlikourOnLife also hosts events, such as the Verse of the Year Awards, which celebrate the best rap verses of the year.

Slikour has been married Melissa Wilkinson, a former Miss South Africa finalist, in 2017. They have a son, Shaka Khensani Anathi Metane, who was born in 2016. Slikour also has a daughter, Nandi, from a previous relationship.

However, in 2024, Melissa dumped the rapper, accusing him of a lack of affection and cheating.
