This is the biography of Shoki Mmola, a South African actress, casting director, fashion designer and translator. She is best known for her role as Celia Kunutu in the soap opera Skeem Saam. She currently plays the role of Prudence, a Reverend on Scandal!
Early Life and Education
Shoki Mmola was born on August 10, 1977, in Tzaneen, Limpopo, South Africa. She attended Prudens Secondary School and later studied drama at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). She also obtained a degree in fashion design from Tampere University of Technology in Finland.
Shoki Mmola Acting Career
Shoki Mmola started her acting career in 1996 and has appeared in various South African TV shows, such as Muvhango, Rhythm City, Mfolozi Street, eKasi: Our Stories, and Death of a Queen. She rose to fame for her role as Celia Kunutu, the mother and stepmother of Rachel and Nimrod Kunutu, in the popular SABC 1 soap opera Skeem Saam. The actress played the role for 10 years.
She has been nominated for the Golden Horn Award for Best Actress in a Lead Role in a TV Drama for her performance. In 2023, she joined Scandal as Prudence, Vuvu’s mother.
Besides acting, Shoki Mmola is also a casting director, translator, language advisor and dubbing producer. She is also a fashion designer and owns a clothing line called Vintage Shock, which specializes in vintage and retro-inspired outfits.

Shoki Mmola was married to actor and producer Sello Sebotsane, but they divorced in 2018 after he allegedly assaulted her. They have a daughter named Oratile Kutlwano. Shoki Mmola is currently single and lives in Johannesburg.
