Early Life and Education
Sandile Mahlangu hails from Middelburg, Mpumalanga, South Africa, where he was born. He did his secondary education at Steelcrest High School. Notably, he was chosen to undergo an electrical apprenticeship at SAMANCOR Ferrochrome in Middelburg. As part of his training, he embarked on on-the-job practicals in the North West region. Subsequently, in 2017, he successfully obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering from Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). In that same year, he relocated to Johannesburg with the aim of pursuing a career in acting.
Sandile Mahlangu’s journey in the world of acting and theater began at an early age. Even in primary school, he showcased his talent by playing the lead character in a school play. As he progressed to high school, he continued to explore his abilities, taking on prominent roles in endorsed musicals. It was during this time that he discovered his flair for choreography and freestyle dancing, further expanding his artistic repertoire.
His talents were recognized when he participated in The National Eisteddfod Academy. In both 2011 and 2012, he emerged as the category winner for the English Comic & Drama Monologues. In 2014, he showcased his skills in the Dance Category (Freestyle) and not only won the category but also secured the Overall Dance Winner title and achieved Third Place in All Categories, spanning from art to music to acting.
In 2015, Sandile landed his first TV commercial role in “KFC KaChing” and subsequently appeared in several others, including “Channel O Turn Up” TVC, “SunBet International” TVC, Halls TVC, “FNB” TVC, “Stimorol WhatChewDo” Social Media Content, and “Cell C Black” TVC, as well as Debonairs Pizza.
Sandile’s entry into the acting industry came in 2016, when he initially worked as an extra on the popular soap opera “Rhythm City.” He later returned to the show, this time portraying the character “Cash.” In addition, he made a cameo appearance on the sitcom “SesTopLa” on SABC 1. In 2017, Sandile took on the lead role of “Siyanda” in the second season of the star-studded sitcom “Single Guys,” which airs on SABC 1.
He also had notable roles in the controversial BBC series “Noughts and Crosses” and the DStv series “iSithembiso,” where he played the lead character of Cheese Boy. His portrayal of “Cheezeboi” in the popular television series “Isithembiso” garnered significant public attention. Originally a recurring role, he was promoted to the starring cast for the show’s second season.
In 2018, Sandile starred in the film “Shaft 6” alongside Vuyo Dabula and Deon Lotz, portraying the character of ‘Uuta Mazibuko.’
In 2020, he took on the role of ‘Simo Shabangu’ in the e.tv television soap opera “Scandal!” Additionally, he gained recognition for his performance as ‘Sbu Twala’ in the highly acclaimed Netflix original series “How to Ruin Christmas: The Wedding.” He reprised his role in the series’ second installments, titled “The Funeral” and “The Baby Shower.”
