Early Life

Robert Mpisi was born on March 20, 1985, in East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa. He later relocated to Klerksdorp in the North West province. Mpisi matriculated in Klerksdorp and graduated with a BA in Live Performance from AFDA. He is fluent in six languages: English, Afrikaans, Xhosa, Sotho, Tswana, and Zulu.

Career

Mpisi’s first stage appearance was in the play “Madeline En Sy Kinders” when he was just seventeen years old. He discovered his passion for acting almost by accident, when his English teacher recognized his talent during class speeches and persuaded him to take part in a school play.

After finishing his matric, Mpisi left Klerksdorp to gain experience in Johannesburg. He landed his first acting job in a drama series called TSHA for SABC 1 when he was just 17 years old. Experienced actors like Candice Hillebrand and Dorothy Ann Gould mentored Mpisi and helped him navigate the industry.

Mpisi studied acting at AFDA and the Actors Centre in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. He has appeared in various TV dramas such as Tsha Tsha, City Ses’la, Soul City, Home Affairs, Good Friday Special, Take Charge, and Buckets, a Swedish film about a boy who comes to South Africa to find his roots.

Mpisi has also acted in popular commercials for brands like Nashua Mobile and Boys Town, and has worked as a voice artist for radio and TV ads for companies like Burger King, SABC, and KFC.

On stage, Mpisi had the lead role in the comedy production “Cellphone,” which was shown at the Grahamstown Festival. He also played a drug dealer in a play written by Dr. Allan Kolski called “The Pump Room.”

Entrepreneurial Ventures

Robert Mpisi is the founder of Talent Factory, a casting and modeling agency that aims to nurture new talent in the industry.
