Putla Sehlapelo is a South African actor known for his notable roles in various television series, particularly on SABC1. He gained recognition from SABC1 viewers for his leading role as Maloro in the mini-series “Death of a Queen” and as Alfred Magongwa in the popular series “Skeem Saam.”

Early Life

Putla Sehlapelo was born in Polokwane, Limpopo, South Africa, on March 3, 1979. He grew up in a family with five siblings, raised by his parents. Showing early talent and passion for the performing arts, Putla pursued a degree in drama at the University of Pretoria.

Putla Sehlapelo made his major acting debut in 2003, when he was cast as Spike in the television series “Generations.” He continued to make his mark in the South African entertainment industry through various roles in television series.

One of his notable performances was as Maloro in the SABC1 mini-series “Death of a Queen,” which was part of the channel’s “Shakespeare in Mzansi” strand and aired from July to August 2008. He showcased his acting skills as Tiro Lebone, a Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) millionaire seeking love, in the M-Net soap opera “The Wild” from 2011 to 2012.

Putla Sehlapelo also appeared in minor roles, such as Hospital Doctor 1, in the SABC2 mini-series “Noah’s Ark” in 2008. In 2014, he portrayed the character of Steve Kefentse, an attorney dedicated to justice, in the SABC2 thriller series “Thola.”

However, it was his role as Alfred Magongwa in the long-running series “Skeem Saam” that brought him widespread recognition among Mzansi soapie lovers. On “Skeem Saam,” he played the on-screen husband of Shoki Sebotsane’s character, Celia.

Additionally, his portrayal of Grace’s husband, Maloro, in “Death of a Queen” further solidified his reputation as a talented actor.

In May 2024, Putla Sehlapelo secured the role of Ramulodi in the television series “Queen Modjadji.” His character, Ramulodi, is the keeper of the secret and the king’s keeper. He stars alongside Makoma Mohale, known for her role as Queen Modjadji, The Rain Queen, in the series.
