Eligibility Criteria:

  • Acceptable Courses or Subjects: The scholarship is available for any subject offered by the participating universities.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
    • Self-identify as a woman and be at least 25 years old by the application deadline.
    • Hold nationality in a country listed on the MMEG Country Eligibility List (except for the Trinity Washington University program).
    • Be registered (not just accepted) at an accredited academic institution during the application submission and plan to enrol for a full academic term after receiving the MMEG grant.
    • Not have any relation to a staff member, spouse, retiree, or MMEG Board member of the World Bank Group, International Monetary Fund, or Inter-American Development Bank.
    • Already be enrolled part-time (minimum of 2 courses per semester or term) or full-time at one of the universities listed on the MMEG website.
    • Be enrolled for at least one more academic term (between January and July 2023).
    • Possess a study permit for South Africa if applying from an eligible country other than South Africa.

Applicants should visit the MMEG website and complete the online application, including the submission of supporting documents and two reference letters, between May 15 and September 14.

 

Supporting Documents:

Applicants are required to provide the following supporting documents:

  • Identification (ID) card with a photograph
  • Most recent proof of official registration from the university (not an acceptance letter)
  • Most recent official university transcripts and/or reports
  • Visa page or study permit page within the current passport (if studying outside the home country)
  • Second passport page with a clear photo (in case of dual citizenship)
  • Brief paragraphs describing their personal story and how their studies, experiences, and future plans align with a commitment to women and children in developing countries
  • An estimate of their financial situation, including living expenses for the upcoming academic year and planned strategies to cover funding needs
  • A summary of the thesis (if applicable), including its objective, methodology, findings, and its connection to career goals.

Applicants must meet the academic and entry requirements specified by the participating South African university.

Language Requirement:

Applicants must submit scores from the following English language proficiency tests:

  • IELTS: 6 (undergraduate), 7 (postgraduate)
  • TOEFL: 80-104 (undergraduate), 105-120 (postgraduate)
