Early Life and Education

Nomzamo Mbatha was born in KwaMashu Township in the KwaZulu Natal Province of South Africa. She attended Rippon Primary School in Durban and Bechet High School, where she obtained her High School Diploma. In 2018, she graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, specializing in accounting. Nomzamo Mbatha relocated from South Africa to America. She currently resides in Los Angeles, California.

She has a younger brother named Zamani Mbatha who is also an actor.

Nomzamo Mbatha Career

Nomzamo Mbatha’s breakthrough role came when she joined the cast of the popular television series Isibaya in 2012, portraying the character Thandeka. Her exceptional performance garnered widespread recognition and made her one of South Africa’s most beloved actresses. She remained a part of the show for seven seasons before bidding farewell to her character in March 2020.

In addition to her success on television, Mbatha ventured into film. In 2015, she made her film debut as Moratiwa in the South African romantic comedy “Tell Me Sweet Something.”. Her performance received critical acclaim and earned her a nomination for the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

From 2015 to 2016, she starred in the drama series Umlilo.

Her international recognition soared when she appeared in the 2021 film Coming 2 America, sharing the screen with Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall. Mbatha portrayed the character Mirembe, who played a pivotal role in preparing the new prince for his responsibilities in the court of Zamunda.

Mbatha’s talents extend beyond acting, as she has also ventured into hosting. She hosted the reality travel show “Holiday Swap” on the South African Broadcasting Corporation.

Additionally, Nomzamo Mbatha has established partnerships with various brands and served as their ambassador. She became the first South African to be the face of Neutrogena and has collaborated with L’Oreal Paris, McDonald’s, Puma, and Audi.

In 2022, she signed with talent management agency Creative Artists Agency. The same year, she was cast as the lead actress and served as an executive producer in the television series “Shaka iLembe,” which aired on Mzansi Magic starting on June 18, 2023.

In 2023, she also starred in the film “Assassin” (previously known as “Soul Assassins” and “Die Like Lovers”) alongside Bruce Willis, which turned out to be Willis’s last movie.

Beyond Acting: Humanitarian Work

Outside of her career in the entertainment industry, Nomzamo Mbatha is passionately actively involved in charity work and humanitarian projects. In 2017, she was appointed as a High-Profile Supporter for the LuQuLuQu campaign, which focuses on raising awareness and supporting refugees.

In 2019, she was chosen to be a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Refugee Agency. Mbatha is also the founder of the Nomzamo Lighthouse Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting marginalized youth, child-headed homes, and senior citizens.
