Early Life

Nicholas Nkuna was born and raised in Mbombela, Mpumalanga. His grandmother played a pivotal role in nurturing his aspirations, particularly his singing career. Her influence and support were instrumental in shaping his path to success.

Nkuna pursued his passion for the arts by obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Arts at Tshwane University of Technology.  He ventured to the United States and enrolled at Ball State University in Indiana, where he studied acting.

Nicholas Nkuna Career

Nkuna’s artistic journey burgeoned during his university years where he discovered a passion for both the arts and opera singing. His foray into acting commenced with remarkable performances in various theatre productions, including “Parade,” “Dream Girls,” “Shaka Zulu,” “Sophiatown,” “Oliver Twist,” “Rent,” and “Assassins.” Notably, he portrayed Simba in “The Lion King,” gracing stages across Ireland and the UK. A milestone achievement came at the age of 22 when he became the second African actor to assume the role of the Phantom in the renowned production of “Phantom of the Opera.”

In 2015, he made his television debut in the series “Skeem Saam” as ‘Sakhile.’ He later took part in the BET acting competition series, “Top Actor Africa,” securing the runner-up position. His television credits further expanded with appearances in series like “Roer Jou Voete,” “Keeping Score,” “Rhythm City,” and the esteemed role of ‘Fikani Chauke’ in the popular series “7de Laan.” His portrayal in the series “Erfsondes” as ‘Freedom’ garnered significant acclaim.

Music Career

Beyond his prowess in acting, Nkuna shines as a musician. His passion for music ignited at a young age, with roots tracing back to leading songs in church—a passion nurtured by his grandmother and mother. Under the alias Nicksoul, he unveiled his soulful music talent with his debut R&B album titled “Therapy,” earning him a nomination at the South African Music Awards in 2018. His musical flair extended to film soundtracks, with his songs featured in movies such as “Red Room” starring Khanyi Mbau and “Meet the Radebes.”
