Nadia Nakai is a South African rapper. She grew up in Johannesburg, went to school in Kenya, and then completed her marketing, communications and media studies degree at Monash University. She and her family are originally from Zimbabwe.

Nadia Nakai changed her name when she was 16. She was initially named Nadia Nakai Dlamini but changed her last name to Kandava, which is her mother’s maiden name. Her legal name is now Nadia Nakai Kandava.

Nadia was born on May 18, 1990, and she is now 32 years old. At a young age, she accomplished a lot and had ambitious plans for the future. 

Nadia Nakai Education

After finishing her high school studies at Fourways High School, Nadia decided to continue her education at a university. She studied Media Studies, Communication, and Marketing – at Monash University.

She moved to Kenya to keep studying and met Nazizi, a female rapper who greatly impacted her music career.

Music Career

Nadia became famous in the music industry in the early 2000s. She featured on a hip-hop show on the channel called Shiz Niz, and she was the first female rapper to win the Mixtape 101 competition. 

In 2013, she released her first song, “Like Me,” with the help of Sid Records, owned by a musician named Psyfo (now named Sidwell).

Nadia released two more songs with Sid Records before joining Cassper Nyovest’s Family Tree. Cassper played a significant role in Nadia Nakai’s 2017 song Naa Mean, which became a hit.

She has also rubbed shoulders with music legends Riky Rick (the late}, Gemini Major, and Ice Prince, just a few to mention.

Nadia released her debut album six years after her first single. Her first full album was entitled Nadia Naked. The album featured some of the most popular African musicians, like Khuli Chana, Ycee, Lady Zamar, Tshego, Sio, and Casper Nyovest.

In 2021, Nadia decided to leave Cassper’s record label Family Tree. She decided to part ways with Cassper’s record label and start her own recording company. Following her decision, Cassper Nyovest gave her the green light and supported Nakai’s move.
