In 2010, Bongani Mahosana and Roy Thabo Mabogwane met at a party where they were both booked to perform in Soshanguve, Pretoria and decided to collaborate. They became known as Murdah Bongz and Thabo Smol, and together, they became a South African house duo Black Motion.
That same year, they joined Faimos Entertainment and released their first single, “Banane Mavoko”, featuring Jah Rich, which gained them international recognition. They went on to release several albums and win multiple awards before announcing their split in 2022.

They initially denied the split rumours several times and said that Black Motion still exists and has plans to release new music. However, it appears that Murdah Bongz has left the group and was replaced by Kabelo Koma, also known as Problem Child Ten83. The couple began dating in 2020, and their romance quickly became the talk of the town. They frequently shared pictures and videos of each other on social media, and fans were thrilled to see two of South Africa’s biggest music stars together.
On August 24, 2021, they announced that Zinhle was pregnant with his child. She released a video clip of her reality TV show where she showed her baby bump at the end of the video on Instagram. They welcomed their daughter Asante Mohosana on October 4, 2021. Murdah Bongz has been a supportive boyfriend and father to Zinhle and Asante, and he also has a toddler from a previous relationship.
As for his ex-girlfriend, little information is available about his past relationships. He has kept his private life relatively private on social media and has opted to focus on his music. Rumours and speculation have been that he dated singer Thuli Phongolo in 2019, but they never confirmed or denied it.
Murdah Bongz, DJ Zinhle And AKA
When rapper AKA was shot dead in February 2023, Murdah Bongz expressed his condolences to his family and friends and thanked him for being a good father to Kairo since he had a child with Zinhle. He, however, did not attend the funeral for cultural reasons.
According to the Bapedi culture, Murdah Bongz could not attend AKA’s funeral because both were romantically involved with Dj Zinhle.
People on Twitter also criticised Bongz for being “a simp” and tolerating how DJ Zinhle kept posting AKA on her social media.
Despite the criticism, Murdah Bongz stepped up to become Kairo’s father figure after the passing of AKA’s death. Zinhle shared videos of the two playing and having fun.
