This is the biography of Mr JazziQ, a South African Amapiano DJ and record producer who has taken the music scene by storm with his innovative and captivating sound. Mr JazziQ is a pioneer and ambassador of this genre, having created countless hits and collaborations with some of the biggest names in the music industry.

 

Early Life and Education

Mr JazziQ was born on 3 March 1995 in Alexandra, Gauteng, South Africa. His real name is Tumelo Manyoni. He was raised by his grandmother while his parents lived in the north of Johannesburg. The musician attended Highlands North Boys’ High School, where he developed his passion for music.

Mr JazziQ Music Career

Mr JazziQ started his DJ career at the age of 14 and his producing career at the age of 16. He experimented with different music genres before he partnered with Josiah, who was also producing Amapiano before their collaboration. They formed the duo JazziDisciples, which became one of the most popular Amapiano groups in South Africa.

In March 2020, Mr JazziQ released his first solo debut album 0303, which featured singles such as “Askies”, “Blue Skies” and “Hello Mo’Girl”. The album received positive reviews and his single “Askies” was certified gold by RiSA.

Five months later, he released his first EP For The Babies, which featured singers Kamo Mphela, Lady Du and Londie London. The EP showcased his versatility and creativity as a producer. In October 2020, he released the album Maba Jabul’ Abantu, which was a collaboration with Busta 929 and featured artists like Reece Madlisa, Zuma, Mpura, Riky Rick and 9umber. The album was a huge success and spawned the hit single “Umsebenzi Wethu”.

In January 2021, Mr JazziQ released the single “Amaneighbour” which featured Killer Kau, Reece Madlisa, Zuma and ThackzinDJ. The single peaked at #7 on Good Hope FM’s Top 10 House Chart. He followed through with his second album, Party With The English, in April 2021, which featured the likes of Lady Du, Boohle, Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa and Focalistic. The album was his first international push and he expressed his excitement to introduce his work to the rest of the world.

In August 2022, Mr JazziQ released his third album All You Need Is Piano. The album featured the duo Murumba Pitch, Mpura, Lady Du, Tsiki XII and F3 Dipapa. The album was a tribute to his love for piano music and his fans.

The musician has won several awards and accolades for his work, such as:

  • Best Amapiano Album at the South African Music Awards 2020 for 0303
  • Best Collaboration at the MTV Africa Music Awards 2021 for “Umsebenzi Wethu”
  • Best Amapiano Artist at the African Muzik Magazine Awards 2021
