Mphowabadimo is a South African sangoma, spiritual teacher, YouTuber and reality TV star. She shot to fame as a contestant and winner of Big Brother Mzansi: Beke Le Beke in 2022. After her victory, she had a public relationship with housemate and finalist Themba Broly, which ended badly in 2023.

Mphowabadimo Early Life

Mphowabadimo was born in Daveyton, a small town in Ekurhuleni district in Gauteng Province, South Africa. She attended primary and secondary school in Daveyton before relocating to Johannesburg.

She dreamed of becoming a reality TV star and wanted to be part of Big Brother Mzansi since 2001. She adopted the nickname Mphowabadimo, which means “a gift of ancestors”, from her name Dimpho and her association with her ancestors (Badimo).

Mphowabadimo is a spiritualist and a sangoma, a traditional healer who communicates with ancestral spirits. She became a sangoma because of her spiritual calling, which she had been aware of since she was 16.

Her family were staunch Christians, and they begged their ancestors for her to finish school. She forgot about her calling until she got to university and lost her eyesight for over a month in 2016. She then embraced her gift and started healing others.

Mphowabadimo has a YouTube channel names MPHOWABADIMO where she teaches about healing from the African perspective. She shares her personal and spiritual journey as a sangoma, a mother, and a reality star. She posts videos of her diary sessions, discussing various topics such as motherhood, relationships, spirituality, and mental health.

She also posts videos of her performing traditional music with her uhadi (a musical bow). Her channel has over 66K subscribers and more than 2.6 million views. She often collaborates with other brands and influencers.

Mphowabadimo’s time in Big Brother Mzansi was full of laughter, tears, adventure and drama. She met her ex-boyfriend Themba Broly Mabaso in the house, and they had a romantic relationship. She faced a lot of judgment and gossip for being a sangoma. Still, she said she wanted to represent her spirituality and ubungoma (ancestral calling) and to break the stereotypes about sangomas. She also said the house helped her to heal and address her emotions.

Mphowabadimo was the first woman to win Big Brother Mzansi and the R2 million grand prize. Besides the money, Mphowabadimo also won a trip to Dubai for two, a car, a laptop, a smartphone, and various vouchers from different sponsors. She also won the hearts of many fans who supported her throughout the show.

Mpho got several endorsements after winning Big Brother Mzansi, such as being the cover star of Bona Magazine, collaborating with various brands on her YouTube channel, and launching her clothing line called Mpho Wa Badimo. Additionally, Mpho got an endorsement deal with ERABYZINHLE, a luxury jewellery and accessories brand owned by DJ Zinhle.

Mphowabadimo And Themba Broly Mabaso

Mphowabadimo and Themba Mabaso started dating shortly after leaving the Big Brother house in April 2022, where she won the R2 million grand prize and he was the second runner-up. They sparked marriage rumours in December 2022 when she shared videos and photos of a traditional ceremony.

However, in March 2023, Mphowabadimo confirmed that they had broken up. She said she was pregnant with his child and had complications requiring her to be closer to her family.

There seemed to be a lot of noise and toxicity in their relationship. Mphowabadimo said she decided to leave before they got married officially with their ancestors because it wouldn’t work. She also noted that Themba was not reciprocating her energy and efforts to make it work.

There were also rumours of Themba cheating with his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his two children, Nqobile Khuzwayo. Mphowabadimo said she wanted peace for herself and her unborn child.

Themba Mabaso did not say much about his break up with Mphowabadimo, except for posting cryptic messages on his social media pages. He also continued to post pictures of her, which she asked him to stop doing as they were no longer together.

He also denied cheating on her with his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his two children, Nqobile Khuzwayo. He said he focused on his music and reality show, Themba: My Inked World.

Later on, Mphowabadimo revealed that she had also been receiving death threats from people close to him and was seeking legal action. In turn, her fans stormed Themba’s social media, threatening to deal with him when they meet in public.
