From her very first small-screen character as Thandazile on the e.tv telenovela Isipho to her coveted role as Hlomu on Showmax’s The Wife, budding actor Mbalenhle Mavimbela journeys back into time as a child who thought acting was just “play” and not something she could make a career of. Hailing from the small town of Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal, Mavimbela depicts herself to have been a bubbly child who wanted nothing but to explore and experience the outdoors.
Age and Early Life
Mbalenhle Mavimbela was born on January 14, 1997 in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal, a small town. When she was growing up, she liked to explore the outdoors and was very curious. She used to play outside with boys and was taught to be a strong woman by her grandmother and mother.
Mbalenhle had an interest in sports when she was young, but in high school, she developed a passion for acting. She learned how to act while practising on the streets.
Mbalenhle Mavimbela attended the Durban University of Technology to study travel and tourism. Her mother did not allow her to take a gap year. She completed her high school education at Pinetown Girls High School, which is a renowned school.
Television Career and role in The Wife
Mbalenhle Mavimbela has acted in various television shows, telenovelas, and drama series. She played Thandi in season one of Durban Gen and Uzalo.
In Isibaya season 7, she appeared as a Negotiator, and in #Karektas season 2, as a Celebrity Guest. Then in 2019, she played the lead role of Isipho in the E.TV drama series titled Isipho.
In June 2021, she portrayed Zama Zulu in the SABC1 drama series Judas Kiss. She was cast as Kwanele on the drama series House of Zwide and Nothile in Skeem Saam.
Mbalenhle Mavimbela played the lead role of journalist Hlomu in the Showmax telenovela The Wife in October 2021. She was nominated for the Best Actress Film category at Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film and Television Awards on October 5, 2021. In the series, Hlomu unknowingly falls in love with a taxi driver with a dangerous secret.
Her role in The Wife earned her the nickname ‘National Wife’ as fans fell in love with her performance in the show. She has also earned the prestigious honour of being Hlomu The Wife Book series’ author Dudu Busani’s muse.
Mbalenhle Mavimbela’s Family
Her grandmother, Thembi Mavimbela, and her mother, Tholakele, raised her. They took good care of her, supported her, and taught her discipline. Mbalenhle also has a sister named Sam Mavimbela, who is in the medical field as a vet. However, there is not a lot of information available about her father besides the pictures she recently posted on her Instagram.

In 2022, Mbalenhle Mavimbela announced that she was pregnant and gave birth later the same year. A few weeks after she gave birth she posted a story on her Instagram of herself having fun while out shopping with her man. The identity of the man she shares her life with has been kept under wraps as she likes to keep her love life private.
