This is the biography of Mamarumo Marokane, a rising South African actress and presenter who has appeared in several TV shows and web series.

 

Early Life and Education

Mamarumo Marokane was born in 1997 in Tafelkop, Limpopo province. She grew up in a family of five siblings and developed a passion for acting from a young age. Mamarumo attended CityVarsity School of Media and Creative Arts in Johannesburg, where she graduated with a diploma in Acting for Camera and Live Performance. She can speak English, Sepedi, and Setswana fluently.

Mamarumo Marokane Acting Career

Mamarumo made her acting debut in 2016 when she appeared in a BET series called Grit. She gained more recognition in 2019 after playing the role of Janice in Shadow. Shadow is a crime thriller that follows a former police officer who becomes a vigilante.

In the same year, Mamarumo joined the cast of MTV Shuga: Down South, a web series that tackles social issues such as HIV, teenage pregnancy, and gender-based violence. She played the role of Dineo, a young woman from Rustenburg who is a basketball player and a caregiver for her mother and siblings.

In 2020, Mamarumo landed a role in Scandal, one of the most popular soap operas in South Africa. She plays the role of Bridget, a mysterious and manipulative woman. The storyline developed, and as of February 2024, Bridget was Nhlamulo’s wife.

She also reprised her role as Dineo in MTV Shuga: Alone Together, a spin-off series highlighting the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, she featured on the Netflix original, Miseducation.

 

Awards and Recognition

Mamarumo has received several accolades and nominations for her acting skills. In 2020, she was one of the four rising stars by Cosmopolitan South Africa, alongside Pearl Thusi, Thando Thabethe, and Natasha Thahane. She was also nominated for the Best Actress in a TV Drama award at the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) for her role in Shadow.
