Linda Sebezo, also known as Linda Sebenzo, is a South African actress, dancer, singer, and director. She garnered significant recognition for her prominent portrayal of Koko, the elderly grandmother who lovingly raised Lebo (Mahlubi Kraai), in the popular SABC1 sitcom, Gauteng Maboneng.

Linda Sebezo was born on 11 November 1964.

Children

She takes pride in being a single mother, raising her two children – Thandi, her daughter, and Fezile, her son.

Career as an Actress

She embarked on her acting journey in 1980 under the banner of Gibson Kente Productions. Since then, she has embarked on national and international tours, accumulating a wealth of television experience. Her notable appearances include iconic shows like Generations, ‘Sgudi ‘Snaysi, Hlala Kwabafileyo, Kwakhala Nyonini, Ashiffa Shaba, Gaz’lam, Muvhango, Soul Buddyz, Isidingo, Backstage, Rhythm City, Stokvel, and Intersexions.

In 2009, she took the reins as a director, overseeing two of Gibson Kente’s theatrical works: The Call and Mfowethu. Beyond this, she’s been actively engaged in the evaluation and cultivation of emerging talents, guiding them into the realm of professional dancers, singers, and actors.

She’s also graced centre stage as a lead actress in an array of captivating plays including Money Maker, Location 1973, iPi Ntombi, Love, Crime and Johannesburg; Julius Caesar, Ababemi, Ziyabheda, Things Are Bad Mzala, Wemame, What A Shame, She Fears The Night, No Peace In The Family, Mfowethu, The GK’s, Hungry Spoon, and Die Pakkamer – a performance that garnered her a well-deserved nomination.

Television-wise, she portrayed the character Nondumiso in the e.tv drama series eKasi: Our Stories, specifically in the episode titled “Mkhuseli”, during 2010. Her involvement continued in 2012, when she reprised her presence in eKasi, this time embodying the role of Mrs Letoaba in the episode labelled “Inheritance”.

2013 saw her as the titular Ma Josephine Rannko in the Mzansi Magic sitcom named Samsokolo. In the subsequent year, she made a guest appearance in an episode of the SABC1 docu-drama Ngempela. Furthermore, 2014 showcased her in a prominent role within the SABC1 drama series Sticks and Stones.

The year 2017 cast her as Sis Dina in the SABC1 sitcom Rented Family, a character portraying an ex-beauty queen basking in the glory of her past achievements.

Arrest

In 2008, she experienced the unfortunate loss of a property she once possessed in Cleveland, Johannesburg, due to her arrest on charges of possessing Mandrax with an estimated value of R5 million.

During her confinement of 3 months in Sun City Prison, she managed to spread positivity among those around her. Among her notable accomplishments was teaching her fellow inmates various skills such as dancing, singing, and acting.

Following her release, she faced the challenge of unemployment, which led her to move to a one-bedroom apartment as her new place of residence.
