Early Life and Education

Langa Mavuso was born on 25 January 1994 in Diepkloof, Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed his high school education at the National School of the Arts, where he studied contemporary music.

From a young age, he was exposed to music as both his parents were singers. He grew up attending choir rehearsals and choral competitions with them. Recognizing his passion for entertainment, Mavuso made his first appearance on stage during his high school years.

After completing high school, he pursued higher education at Rhodes University, where he obtained a BA in politics and economics. Later, he studied jazz performance at the University of Cape Town’s School of Music.

Langa Mavuso’s musical journey began at a young age, shaped by his exposure to various genres and artists. He drew inspiration from musicians such as Caiphus Semenya, Ringo Starr, Stimela, and Whitney Houston. Mavuso’s distinct voice, described as flawed, husky, coarse, rich, sweet, and alluring, captivates listeners. His music is often categorized as soul and R&B.

In 2016, after returning from his studies in Cape Town, Mavuso started recording his debut EP. Titled “Liminal Sketches,” the EP was released on 30 October 2016 and featured four songs, an interlude, and a bonus track with Bongeziwe Mabandla. Mavuso’s collaboration with Redbull Studios resulted in the release of the EP “Home,” which gained significant attention in the South African music industry.

One of the turning points in Mavuso’s career was when renowned DJ and producer Black Coffee discovered him. Black Coffee was introduced to Mavuso’s talent through a video of him singing “Sunday Blues” on iTunes. Impressed by his vocals, Black Coffee shared the video with John Legend’s manager, who also became captivated by Mavuso’s artistry. As a result, Mavuso signed with Black Coffee’s label, Soulistic Music.

With influences from personal experiences, Mavuso’s music often delves into themes of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery. Langa Mavuso Personal Life


Langa Mavuso’s personal life has experienced significant events. He was formerly in a relationship with celebrity chef Lentswe Bhengu, who tragically passed away in February 2023 after a brief illness.

Mother Hijacking

On 17 April 2024, Langa Mavuso took to his social media platforms to seek help in locating his mother, who was hijacked in Mondeor, south of Johannesburg, on Monday afternoon. The singer expressed his frustration and urged the public to assist in finding her. Fortunately, his mother was found alive the following day in Naturena.
