This is the biography of Khulane Morule, professionally known as Khuli Chana.He is a prominent South African Motswako rapper and songwriter. He gained fame for his unique blend of Setswana and English in his music, and his contributions to the hip hop scene in South Africa.

Early Life

Khuli Chana was born in Mmabatho, North West Province, South Africa. While information about his formal education remains undisclosed, he has openly discussed his passion for music and his journey to prominence.

Music Career

Khuli Chana’s love for rap and Motswako, a genre that fuses Setswana and English, developed at a young age.

In the 90s, Khuli Chana embarked on his musical journey with his friend Kgaugelo Phaswana. Later on, he formed the group III Tribe with his cousins Molemi and Todi. The group gained recognition as part of the Morafe Movement when they added HHP (aka Jabba) to their team. Morafe released two studio albums before taking a hiatus from creating music collectively. Subsequently, Khuli Chana decided to pursue a solo career.

Rise to Fame

Khuli Chana’s breakthrough to fame came with the release of his highly successful album, “Motswakoriginator.” The album, which seamlessly blends Setswana and English, showcases the unique sound and style of Motswako music originating from Mahikeng, a small town in the North West Province. This release propelled Khuli Chana into the limelight and solidified his position as a prominent figure in the South African hip hop scene.

One of Khuli Chana’s notable memories is touring Los Angeles in the United States with fellow rapper AKA during the early 2010s. The experience of flying in private jets and being escorted left a lasting impression on them, symbolizing the realization of their dreams. During this time, AKA even got a tattoo of the young Michael Jackson.

In 2014, Khuli Chana released the single “Hape Le Hape 2.1” featuring Da L.E.S and Magesh, followed by the release of the music video for the single titled “Never Grow Up.” His contributions to the music industry earned him nominations for the Most Valuable Artist and Video of the Year categories at the 2014 South African Hip Hop Awards. Khuli Chana has also performed as an opening act for the Canadian rapper Drake.

Khuli Chana collaborated closely with the late South African rapper HHP and AKA, playing a pivotal role in shaping the new wave of hip hop in the country. Additionally, he partnered with vodka brand Absolut, becoming one of their ambassadors for the South African market.

Khuli Chana’s discography includes several significant milestones. His debut album, “Motswakoriginator,” propelled him to fame, and his second album, “Lost In Time,” released in 2012, won three awards at the 2013 South African Music Awards (SAMAs) and received international nominations. In 2017, he released his third album, “One Source,” which faced various challenges during its release. His fourth studio album, “Planet of The Have Nots,” released in 2019, garnered praise from fans, critics, and fellow rappers alike. Throughout his career, Khuli Chana has released numerous hit songs, including “No More Hunger,” “All Hail,” “Never Grow Up,” “W’angthola,” “Tswakstikem,” and “Freshne,” among others.

Khuli Chana Personal Life

In 2013, a significant event occurred that had a profound impact on Khuli Chana’s life and career. He was shot by members of the South African police while in his car due to mistaken identity. The incident, in which nine bullets were fired at his vehicle, caused speculation and cast a shadow over his name and reputation. Fortunately, Khuli Chana made a full recovery, cleared his name, and reached a settlement of R1.8 million out of court.


In 2019, Khuli Chana tied the knot with DJ and television personality Lamiez Holworthy. Their union marked a new chapter in Khuli Chana’s personal life.
