This is the biography of Bonga Ntozini, widely known by his stage name Karyendasoul. He is a versatile Afro-house music producer and DJ. With a distinguished career that includes collaborations with industry heavyweights such as Zakes Bantwini and Black Coffee, Karyendasoul has established himself as a prominent figure in the music scene.

Early Life

Born in the Eastern Cape town of Nqamakwe, Karyendasoul’s passion for music was ignited during his formative years spent at his grandmother’s house. Growing up, he was exposed to the world of choral music, as his grandmother was a composer and songwriter. His involvement in the school choir, where his grandmother taught, further nurtured his interest in music. As he progressed through high school, Karyendasoul’s focus shifted towards the house genre, and he began honing his skills in DJing and music production to develop a unique sound that resonated with his artistic sensibilities.

Karyendasoul Career

Karyendasoul’s love for dance music blossomed during his early high school days, and he subsequently acquainted himself with basic production software, teaching himself the intricacies of music production. Driven by his unwavering love and passion for music, the young creative crafted a distinctive sound that can best be described as “Electronic Afro House.” This fusion genre combines the vibrant rhythms of Afro-House with elements of electronic and techno music, characterized by raw kicks, deep basslines, central African vocal chants, and rich African percussions.

Kenny Dope’s Recognition

In 2015, Karyendasoul made his debut release on Surreal Sounds Music’s “We Live 4OUR Music EP,” followed by the release of his EP titled “Ambition & Dreams” on Lilac Jeans Records. The following year, he contributed a track titled “8th Brother” to the Red Bull Studios Cape Town digital release titled “We Live 4OUR Music.” It was during this time that Karyendasoul caught the attention of renowned house DJ and tastemaker Kenny Dope, who selected him to feature on the Dopewax Approved compilation for Europe’s largest electronic music conference, ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event). This opportunity propelled Karyendasoul to new heights, as he championed Afro-house on a global scale while making a significant impact in his home country.

In 2021, Karyendasoul released his Imizamo EP, which included the lead single “iMali” featuring Zakes Bantwini and Nana Atta. The track received widespread acclaim and secured placements on prominent playlists, including the Top 100 Songs of South Africa 2022 and Mzansi Hits.

The year 2023 marked a milestone in Karyendasoul’s career with the release of his highly-anticipated debut album, ‘We Live 4 Our Music.’ Comprising ten tracks, the album features collaborations with esteemed artists such as Zakes Bantwini, Msaki, Ami Faku, and Simmy, among others. ‘We Live 4 Our Music’ has garnered positive reviews from both fans and critics, solidifying Karyendasoul’s position as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.

Stage Name Inspiration

Seeking a stage name that would reflect his artistic direction and resonate with his brand, Karyendasoul drew inspiration from the Karyenda, a traditional African drum that held significant cultural importance in Burundi. With his music deeply rooted in rhythm and soul-stirring melodies, Karyendasoul was born—a name that seamlessly combines the essence of drums and soul.

Karyendasoul Record Label
