Early Life

Born in Vereeniging, Gauteng, Jo-Anne Reyneke grew up in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, under the care of her single mother, alongside her brother. Her mixed-race heritage, with a black Zulu mother and a white father, led to her being teased due to her complexion and features. Her passion for performing arts emerged during her schooling at Russell High School, where she delved into drama. This interest persisted through tertiary education at Movietech Film and Television School in Durban, where she studied performing arts and music.

Reyneke’s career took flight at The Playhouse Company, Durban, where she starred in Duma Ndlovu’s play “The Game” alongside prominent figures like Mary Twala, Lucia Mthiyane, and Sindi Dlathu. This opportunity led her to a role in “Muvhango” as Pearl, a receptionist, marking her breakthrough in the industry. Departing from “Muvhango,” she appeared in “Intersexions” before landing the role of Prudence Oliphant in “Rhythm City,” further solidifying her standing.

Her career soared with appearances in renowned series like “High Rollers,” “Isidingo,” and “Scandal!.” In 2018, she won a SAFTA award in for Best Actress in a Drama for her role in “Broken Vows.”
