Gugu Gumede, hailing from the Province of Natal, is a renowned South African actress. She has gained significant recognition for her portrayal of the character Mamlambo, a prophetess, in the popular soapie Uzalo.

Early Life

Gumede, originally from the province of Natal, comes from a family with her father, Simon Hulumeni Gumede, and her mother, Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi.

Education

She pursued her acting education at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts located in Los Angeles.

 Personal Life

Gumede is a born-again Christian.

Gugu gave birth to her daughter on 24 March 2022.

Career

In 2013, Gumede made her return from the United States and secured the role of Mandisa in Generations, a highly successful television series in South Africa. This marked a significant milestone in her career.

In 2015, Gumede was chosen to portray the character Mamlambo on Uzalo, the most-watched television show in South Africa.

Furthermore, in 2018, she co-hosted the 11th Crown Gospel Music Awards alongside Somizi Mhlongo, Rebecca Malope, Clement Maosa, and other notable celebrities.

Politics

In 2021, there were reports that Gugu Gumede would be departing from the SABC soapie Uzalo. It was alleged that she intended to embark on a political journey to honor and uphold the political aspirations of her late mother, Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi.

There were reports stating that following Magwaza-Msibi’s passing in September 2021, the party had not yet chosen a president.

As their elective conference drew near, Gugu Gumede received a nomination for the position. Furthermore, party members had already begun actively campaigning on her behalf.

However, when Daily Sun spoke to Gugu, she said that she is not aware of any campaigns for her to run for president.

“I’m incredibly flattered that the people of the NFP would deem me worthy to follow and fill such gigantic shoes.

“However, although I remain a faithful member of the NFP, I have neither been approached officially nor have I taken this into consideration,” she said.
