He was born on the 26th of May 1996. As of 2024, he is 28 years old.

Early Life

Focalistic was born in Zone 2, Ga-Rankuwa, Pretoria, South Africa. His father, Kgomotso Sebetso, was a former political journalist at SABC. Tragically, his father passed away in a car accident in Ga-Rankuwa in 2011. During his youth, Focalistic tended to his father’s pig farm to support the family while his father was ill. He later graduated from the University of Pretoria with a degree in political science.

Career

Originally aspiring to be a footballer, Focalistic transitioned to pursue a music career as a rapper.

Notably, in 2016, he won the Artist on Rise competition, which played a vital role in elevating his career. A breakthrough moment came when his single “Fak’mali” debuted at number one on the YFM Hip Hop music charts.

He released his debut studio album, “Sgubhu Ses Excellent,” in 2020. In the same year, Focalistic co-founded his own record label, 18 Area Holdings, in partnership with The Vth Seasons. Shortly after, he released his extended play titled “Quarantined Tarantino” on April 10, 2020. The EP featured the popular single “Ke Star,” a collaboration with Vigro Deep, which quickly gained traction and became certified gold with sales of 25,000 copies.

Global Success and Awards

Focalistic’s success continued as he joined the RADAR African program by Spotify in November 2020. The following month, on December 4, he released his highly anticipated album, “Sghubu Ses Excellent,” which further solidified his position in the music industry.

In February 2021, Focalistic gained international recognition with the release of the remix of “Ke Star,” featuring Davido and Vigro Deep. The remix achieved tremendous success, charting at number 16 on the Billboard Top Triller Global chart in the United States. Additionally, Focalistic received seven nominations at the 2021 All Africa Music Awards, including categories such as Best Male Artiste, Artiste of the Year, and Song of the Year.

Continuing his ascent, Focalistic headlined the AmaFest Tour in the UK in early September 2021, showcasing and promoting the Amapiano genre. Later that month, he released his studio extended play, “President Ya Straata,” featuring the lead single “16 Days No Sleep,” a collaboration with Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa, and Mellow & Sleazy. Furthermore, Focalistic was nominated for Best African Act at the 2021 MTV Europe Music Awards.

In March 2022, Focalistic performed at the O2 Arena in London alongside Nigerian singer Davido, further establishing his international presence. On May 1, he embarked on a North American Tour, visiting 12 cities across the United States, including Washington D.C, Houston, Dallas, Orlando, Minnesota, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta, and New York.

On November 18, 2022, Focalistic released his highly anticipated studio album, “Ghetto Gospel,” which garnered significant attention. The album’s lead single, “Tabela Hape,” featuring Kabza de Small, Mellow and Sleazy, and Myztro, was released on October 28, 2022.

Personal Life

Focalistic was previously in a relationship with South African DJ and musician DBN Gogo, but they reportedly broke up in 2023. Currently, Focalistic is said to be in a relationship with Pabi Cooper.
