Goodwill Malinga, who is popularly known by his stage name Dr. Malinga, is a South African singer, record producer, and dancer.
His trademark high kicks and elegant suit attire have earned him immense popularity, explaining that he wears suits to dispel the notion that they are uncool.
Dr. Malinga rose to significant fame with his chart-topping hit “Casanova,” a collaboration with DJ Choice that catapulted him to the mainstream spotlight.
Dr. Malinga was born on 7 July 1980. (Age 43, as of 2023). He hails from Themba, Hamanskraal in South Africa, and was brought up by his grandmother.
Dr. Malinga’s breakthrough into the music industry came after the successful release of his hit single “Casanova” with DJ Choice, which earned him numerous awards and accolades. However, his passion for music started at a young age.
In his early years, he used to distribute pamphlets outside a furniture store, where he met a woman who sang to promote her business.
Intrigued by her singing, he expressed his interest in music and began singing himself.
However, he soon realized that people were not paying attention to his singing, so he decided to focus on dancing instead. This decision marked the birth of the Dr. Malinga we know today.
He went on to participate in various talent shows. He eventually emerged as the winner of the Voice of Choice competition and was rewarded with a Mazda.
Following the success of his first hit single, Dr. Malinga continued to release more songs under the record label Kalawa Jazmee.
In 2014, he released his debut album, further solidifying his position as a prominent artist in the South African music industry.
After some time, Dr. Malinga departed from Kalawa Jazmee and founded his record label, Linga Entertainment.
He has collaborated with several renowned artists in South Africa and has performed alongside local and international musicians on various stages.
Dr. Malinga is married to Boitumelo Mosupye. Boitumelo has a son from a previous relationship, whom Dr. Malinga considers his stepson.
The couple has four children after they recently welcomed a set of twins to their family in 2020.
