Jerry Mofokeng was born on April 17, 1956, in Orlando West, Soweto, Gauteng, South Africa. He spent most of his childhood in Lesotho, where he developed his interest in drama and storytelling. He attended Orlando West High School and Youth Alive Ministries in Soweto in the 1970s.
Mofokeng then enrolled at Wits Drama School, where he majored in acting. He later won a Fullbright scholarship to study at Columbia University in New York, where he obtained his master’s degree in Theatre Directing in 1991.

Jerry Mofokeng began his acting career on stage, performing in various plays and musicals. He made his film debut in 1994, playing Duma Nkosi in The Line. The actor then appeared in several notable films, such as Cry The Beloved Country (1995), Mandela and de Klerk (1997), Mr Bones 3(2022), Max and Mona (2004), Tsotsi (2005), Lord of War (2005), Mama Jack (2005), Safe House (2012), and The Forgotten Kingdom (2013). He also starred in several television shows, such as Yizo Yizo, Behind The Badge and Scandal.

Dr Jerry Mofokeng Personal Life and Philanthropy
Jerry Mofokeng is married to Claudine Mofokeng, and they have four children together: Lerato, Thapelo, Kabelo, and Katleho. He is also a grandfather to six grandchildren. He is a devout Christian and a member of Grace Bible Church.
Mofokeng is also a motivational speaker and a counsellor who offers guidance and support to individuals and couples on various issues such as marriage, parenting, career, and spirituality. He is also involved in various charitable causes and initiatives that aim to uplift the lives of the less fortunate and promote social justice.
Jerry Mofokeng was diagnosed with prostate cancer in October 2019 and started his therapy in December that year. He underwent five weeks of radiation and brachytherapy, which are types of internal radiation therapy that target the tumor. He also used herbal medication to supplement his treatment. After three weeks of treatment, the doctors informed him that all the symptoms of cancer had disappeared and he was in remission.
