Ntombezinhle Jiyane, renowned by her stage name DJ Zinhle is a well-known South African DJ, producer, media personality, and entrepreneur.

In addition to her successful career as a DJ, Zinhle has also ventured into acting. She started her on-screen career as a judge on various shows such as Jika MaJika, Idols South Africa, Turn It On, and 1’s and 2 (2021).

She has also made guest appearances on several TV series, including eKasi: Our Stories (2011), Play Your Part (2012), Tropika Island (2012), The Close Up, and Rhythm City.

DJ Zinhle was born on December 30, 1983, in Dannhauser, KwaZulu-Natal, which means that she is 40 years old as of 2023. DJ Zinhle spent her early years in the area before relocating to Newcastle. She continued her education at Siyamukela High School in Emadadeni, Newcastle.

Career

Around 2004, DJ Zinhle embarked on her career journey. Despite initially aspiring to become a TV presenter, she eventually became interested in DJing after being influenced by her brother’s passion for mixing vinyls.

Her big break came when she was appointed as a resident DJ on a popular youth dance show called Jika Majika, which aired on SABC 1.

DJ Zinhle has worked alongside South African music legend Boom Shaka on the album titled I Put It In, which also features other notable artists such as Dr. Malinga, Khanyi Mbau, and Mphoza, among others.

At the second Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards, she won two awards in the categories of Best House DJ and Best House Female Artist.

Zinhle also headlined the Zimfest 2019 live concert, which is a Zimbabwean festival held in England.

Her hit single “Umlilo” released in 2019 became a major success and gained over 5.1 million streams in just three months.

The song was certified 3× platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RISA) and voted as the 2019 Song of The Year.

In 2021, DJ Zinhle co-hosted a talent show competition called 1’s and 2’s on Sabc 1, alongside DJ Tira and DJ Speedsta. Later in the year, she announced the upcoming premiere of her reality show, Unexpected, on BET Africa.

Awards

DJ Zinhle has been recognized with numerous awards and nominations since the beginning of her career. She won the Song of the Year at the 2019 South African Music Awards (SAMA).

Apart from awards and nominations, DJ Zinhle has also landed multiple endorsement deals with top brands in South Africa.

Personal Life

DJ Zinhle was previously in an on-and-off relationship with the late South African rapper AKA, until their split in January 2020. She and AKA have one child together and they named her Kairo Forbes.

After her initial breakup with AKA in 2015, DJ Zinhle began dating businessman Brendon Naidoo in 2016.

Naidoo publicly expressed his love for Zinhle in an Instagram post in October 2016, in which he called her one of the superwomen in his life.

However, their relationship ended in 2017 after Naidoo was accused of being an alleged conman who had defrauded retired teachers and business owners of millions of Rands. Although Zinhle initially appeared to stand by Naidoo, they quietly separated a few months later.

In 2021, DJ Zinhle welcomed a baby girl with her husband Bongani, who is also known as Murdah Bongz and they named her Asante.
