Her real name is Mandisa Radebe. However, she is widely recognized by her stage name, DBN Gogo, a nickname given to her by her friends.

Early Life

DBN Gogo was born in Durban, South Africa, but her family relocated to Pretoria, where she spent her childhood. She also spent part of her life in France. She pursued her education at the University of Pretoria, studying law.

Family

DBN Gogo comes from a business and politically connected family. Her father is Jeff Radebe, a former South African minister in the presidency and the former minister of energy. Her stepmother is Bridgette Motsepe Radebe, a prominent businesswoman and mining magnate. DBN Gogo is also related to South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe, who is her maternal uncle, and President Cyril Ramaphosa, who is her uncle. She has two siblings named Malaika Radebe and Vukani Radebe.

Music Career

DBN Gogo’s passion for music developed at an early age, and she actively participated in school choirs. She cultivated her skills as a singer, pianist, and dancer, eventually deciding to pursue a career in music. She entered the music industry in 2018 but gained significant recognition in April 2020 when she featured as a DJ on Channel O’s Lockdown House Party.

In March 2021, DBN Gogo released her breakthrough single “Khuza Gogo” featuring Mpura, Ama Avenger, and M.J. The song achieved platinum certification in South Africa, further elevating her profile in the music industry.

Throughout her career, DBN Gogo has achieved several notable milestones. In August 2021, she released her first collaborative EP titled “Thokoza Café” with DJ Dinho. In October 2021, she became the first South African artist to join the Global Equal program by Spotify. In February, she was announced as a host of Boiler Room x Ballantine’s True Music Studios, showcasing her talent on an international platform.

DBN Gogo’s prominence continued to rise, and in April 2022, she headlined the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in the United States. In November 2022, she announced her debut studio album, “Whats Real,” which was released on November 25, 2022. Her swift rise to success has solidified her position as a household name and one of the most sought-after DJs in South Africa.

Personal Life

DBN Gogo was previously in a relationship with South African rapper Lethabo Sebetso, popularly known as Focalistic. However, the couple later broke up amid rumours of infidelity, with Focalistic being linked to musician Pabi Cooper.
