Thirty-four-year-old Danica Tamaryn De La Rey, also known as Danica Jones, was born in the small city of Pietermaritzburg, Kwa Zulu Natal. From a young age, she found solace and expression in performance, starting from humble beginnings in her living room with family and toys as her audience.

Danica’s passion for performance was evident during her high school years, where she frontlined every school play and cultural performance, earning her Honours for Drama Performance in 2007. Her breakthrough came when she graced the stage at the Playhouse Theatre Loft as Naomi, an African healer, in 2015. This role won her The Mercury Durban Theatre Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Danica Jones Film and Television Career

Danica is most prominent for her roles in Mbongeni Ngema’s film adaptation of Asinamali, playing the role of Soweto, an MK soldier. She also featured in the independent feature film Aya, which screened in many film festivals and streaming platforms globally. Danica made her international debut as coach Paula in the Disney film Darby and the Dead. Her most notable television role has been Tamryn on SABC 1’s Generations: The Legacy. In 2024, she joined etv flagship show, Scandal. She portrayed the role of Simone, whose baby was swapped at birth with Nhamulo and Lindiwe Maseko’s baby Larona.
