Charmaine Mtinta is a prominent South African actress. Her standout role as Nomsa in the inaugural season of the SABC1 drama series “Yizo Yizo” garnered her widespread acclaim. Notably, she clinched the Avanti Award for her exceptional portrayal, securing the title of Best Actress in a Drama Series for this performance.

Background

Mtinta was born in Gugulethu, a township in the Western Cape. She enjoys a morning stretch doing yoga to keep fit and loves her tea. Charmaine Mtinta is not a sangoma.

Education

Mtinta studied Music at East Side College and majored in Jazz. She later studied drama at Indigo View Actors Academy.

Career

In 1999, Mtinta made her debut on-screen appearance as Nomsa in the first season of “Yizo Yizo.” Despite participating in other soap operas such as “Generations” and “Isibaya,” her association with the character remains enduring.

With a presence spanning over two decades in the film and television industry, the actress has evolved significantly since her portrayal of Nomsa, continually amassing valuable experience.

Charmaine took on a prominent role as the opportunistic widow of Lebo’s uncle, Pearl, in the SABC1 sitcom “Gauteng Maboneng” in 2011. She also assumed the character of Aunt Lizzie in the Mzansi Magic telenovela “Inkaba” between 2012 and 201e

In “Generations,” she portrayed the character Bongi and made appearances in the SABC1 soap opera “Missing Link.” She also appeared in the 1Magic soap opera “The River,” securing a recurring role as part of the Zungazi storyline, marking her debut in Season 4, Episode 53, on April 21st.

Mtinta’s acting portfolio includes appearances in shows like “Isibaya,” “My Perfect Family,” “Tempy Pushas,” “Zibondiwe,” “Hope,” and “Igazi,” among others.

She commenced her role as Nomfundo Langa, the onscreen sister of Lulama, in the e.tv soap opera Scandal! on August 23, 2019.

In the series, her character embodies a bold and outspoken traditional aunt. Her addition to the cast came shortly after the passing of Nomhle Nkonyeni, the actress who previously depicted Lulama Langa.

In the e.tv drama soap opera “Smokes and Mirrors,” she took on the role of Nomeva. Charmaine Mtinta acted in the film alongside Zolisa Xaluva and Meshack Mavuso. Following her aspiration for a theatre role, she fulfilled this desire by participating in the play “Xova,” which recently received five awards at the Naledi Theatre Awards.
