Early Life and Education

Bucy Radebe was born Phumulani Asnath Radebe on 16 March 1987 in Maboloka, a village near Brits in the North-West province. She grew up in a musical family with a single mother, Mme Esther Radebe, who encouraged her to sing from a young age. She started singing at the age of three and joined the school choir at Mafumbuka Primary School when she was 10. Bucy later moved to Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, and attended Botse-Botse High School, where she continued participating in music activities. She also joined the AFM (House of Praise, Mabopane) youth choir, the Kopano Chorus, and Opera Africa, where she performed in various productions.

Bucy Radebe began her professional career as a background vocalist for several gospel artists, such as Tebs David, Apostle Solly Mahlangu, and Takie Ndou. She travelled to many African countries with them and gained valuable experience and exposure. In 2018, she joined the Spirit of Praise 7 choir, where she showcased her powerful and soulful voice. Bucy decided to pursue a solo career and recorded her debut album, Spiritual Encounter, in November 2019.

She released the album in February 2020, and it became an instant hit, with songs like Uzugcin’impilo Yam’, Thuma Mina, and Ke Tla Sejara Sefapano. The album received positive reviews and nominations for several awards, such as the SABC Crown Gospel Awards, the Mzansi Gospel Awards, and the Ingoma Awards. The star has become one of the most popular and influential gospel singers in South Africa, with a large fan base and a strong social media presence.

Bucy Radebe Personal Life

Bucy Radebe is married to Thapelo “TP” Thoboke, who is also her executive producer and manager. They have a beautiful relationship and often share their love and support for each other on their Instagram accounts. Bucy Radebe is a devoted Christian and a proud mother of two children, a son and a daughter. She loves spending time with her family and friends, and she also enjoys cooking, reading, and travelling.

In 2024, she revealed that she once attempted suicide by overdosing on tablets. This follows the death threats and harassment she received after he husband allegedly disrespected Dr Rebecca Malope in 2022. During her live concert recording at Sun City, her husband and manager allegedly told Dr Rebecca Malope to “f*ck off” if she did not want to wear the attire and perform the song that he had chosen for her. He also reportedly insulted her by saying that she was not a legend and that she should be grateful for being invited to the show. This made Dr Malope feel humiliated and hurt, as she expressed on Twitter. Thoboke later apologised and said there was a misunderstanding.
