Bonang Dorothy Matheba, also known as Queen B, is a South African award-winning media personality, entrepreneur, and philanthropist known for her striking presenting skills and signature voice. She is widely recognised for her television and radio host work and fashion and beauty ventures.
Age and Date of Birth
Bonang was born on June 25, 1987, in Mahikeng, North West Province, South Africa. In March 2023, at the time of publishing, she was 35 years old, turning 36 in June 2023.
Bonang Matheba’s Family
Bonang Matheba’s parents are Charlotte Mokoena and Andrew Gampi Matheba. Her mother is the current Executive Vice-President of Human Resources and Corporate Affairs at Sasol. Her father is a senior lecturer at the University of North West. Bonang Matheba has two siblings, Reabetswe Sechoaro and Thabo Mokoena. Reabetswe is a model.
Bonang Matheba has no children, and she has stated that she has no plans to become a mother soon.
Bonang attended Fourways High School in Johannesburg and went on to take a marketing course at the University of Johannesburg. She had to drop out of school due to the pressure that came with the popularity and focus on her career.
Matheba began her career in media at age 15 as a presenter for a youth show on SABC 2 called Manhattan’s Fantasy Challenge. She later moved on to co-hosting the SABC 1 music show LIVE from 2007 to 2012 before it rebranded to Live Amp. Her career continued to grow as she hosted several other television shows, such as ‘Top Billing’ and ‘Afternoon Express’.
In 2014, Bonang Matheba hosted The Front Row radio show on SABC’s Metro FM. However, a dispute arose with the radio station’s manager after an on-air reshuffle that saw Bonang hosting the show alongside her rumoured longtime industry rival Lerato Kganyago without her notification. She abruptly resigned from Metro FM in 2017 through her Twitter page.
Bonang Matheba has hosted numerous award shows and prominent events. She is the first female host of the South African Music Awards, the SAMAs and the youngest host of the Metro FM Music Awards.

Bonang Matheba has won several awards and nominations throughout her career. In 2015, she scooped the Favourite South African Radio DJ gong at the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles and was nominated at the MTV Africa Music Awards for African Personality Of The Year.
She was also named the Star Power Award at the African Women Awards in Zimbabwe and was recognised as one of Africa’s Most Powerful Women In Media by New Africa Magazine in December 2015.

- Slikour: a rapper who was part of the hip-hop group Skwatta Camp. They dated for a few years in the late 2000s and broke up in 2009. They are still good friends, and Bonang has praised him for being her “best boyfriend”.
- Euphonik: a DJ who met Bonang while they were both rising in the entertainment industry. Their turbulent relationship ended with Bonang laying assault charges against him in 2012. They later reconciled and dropped the charges, but their romance did not last.
- AKA: a rapper who was previously dating DJ Zinhle. Bonang and the late AKA had an affair while Zinhle was pregnant with AKA’s child, Kairo. Zinhle exposed their relationship on Twitter in 2015. Bonang and AKA dated for about two years before splitting up in 2018.
