Arthur Mafokate is a South African Kwaito musician, producer and businessman.

Arthur Mafokate was born on August 10, 1962, in Johannesburg, South Africa. This means that as of 2023, he is 61 years old. He grew up in the township of Soweto, where he developed a passion for music and dance at an early age. Inspired by the vibrant street culture, Arthur began his musical journey in the 1980s.
Musical Journey & Debut Album
Before establishing himself as a solo artist, Arthur danced for notable musicians, including Brenda Fassie. In 1994, he released his debut album “Windy Windy” with the hit track “Amagents Ayaphanda. He is recognized as one of the pioneers of the Kwaito music genre, blending house, hip-hop, and traditional African rhythms.
Success & Notable Works
Following his breakthrough, Arthur released albums like “Oyi Oyi,” “Achuzi,” and “Yimi Lo,” cementing his status in the Kwaito music scene. He was the first artist to win the South African Music Awards category of The Song Of The Year. At the 2007 FNB South African Music Awards, he was recognised for his contribution to this new generation of music. In 2016, he was honoured at the 2016 South African Metro FM Music Awards with the Lifetime Achievement Award for recognition of his 22-year-old successful entertainment career.

Legal Issues
Arthur’s relationship with artiste Busiswe “Cici” Thwala ended on a controversial note, with both parties filing assault cases against each other. The case against Arthur was eventually thrown out.

Lotto Scandal
Arthur Mafokate was allegedly involved in a scandal with the National Lotteries Commission (NLC). According to reports, Mafokate used money he received from the NLC to purchase a swanky lodge, pay rent for his other company, 999 Music, buy laptops, printers, cameras and furniture, and purchase a vehicle that was used to shuttle his ex-girlfriend, singer Chomee.
Mafokate also allegedly used his nonprofit organization (NPO), the SA Arts and Development Association (Saada), to score his next girlfriend – musician Cici – a recording deal with 999 Music. These allegations are contained in an affidavit that was deposed to at the Midrand Police Station by Mafokate’s former manager, Brian Mokoena.
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) obtained a preservation order to freeze properties valued at R53 million, one of which belongs to Mafokate. The properties are linked to the alleged siphoning of lotteries grant funds meant for community development projects.
