Anele Mdoda is a South African television presenter, radio personality, producer, businesswoman, and author.

Background

She was born and raised in Mthatha, Eastern Cape. Her father is Patillizwe Mdoda, and her mother is Yolisa Mdoda. Unfortunately, her mother passed away in 2009. Anele has three sisters: Unathi, Thembisa, and Zamalisa Mdoda. The Mdoda family is well-known in the entertainment industry, with Anele and Thembisa being prominent figures.

Anele Mdoda is close friends with Trevor Noah and Sizwe Dhlomo and often goes on vacations with them.

Anele Mdoda has a son named Alakhe who has his own YouTube channel called ‘Alakhe’s World’. The channel is described as a show for kids.

Education

After completing her matric, she pursued a degree in Politics and International Relations at the University of Pretoria.

Radio Career

Her career in radio started at the age of 20 as a radio DJ in 2004. In 2007 she joined Highveld FM after graduating from university. In the following year, she transitioned to 5FM. During the same year, she also participated in the fifth season of the reality competition show Strictly Come Dancing.

Television Career

From 2009 to 2010, Anele Mdoda co-hosted “SA’s Got Talent” on SABC 2 alongside Rob van Vuuren. In 2012, she became a judge for the Miss South Africa pageant and a judge on the reality competition show “Clash of the Choirs.”

In 2013, she hosted the docu-reality series “Dream School SA” on M-Net. In 2014, she co-hosted the talk show “Tongue in Cheek,” two years later, she hosted the daytime talk show “Real Talk with Anele.”

In May 2016, Mdoda co-hosted “Our Perfect Wedding” with her sister Thembisa. In November 2018, she joined 947 as the host of the “Breakfast Club” show and hosted the third season of “The Voice South Africa.”

In 2020, she served as a judge for the Miss South Africa pageant and in February 2021, she began hosting the Pan-African television show “The Buzz.” In September 2021, she was announced as the host of the Miss South Africa pageant alongside Nico Panagio.

In August 2022, Mdoda hosted the Miss South Africa Beauty Pageant, and in the second quarter of 2022, she co-produced the Netflix Afrikaans series “Ludik.”

Masked Singer SA

In 2023, Anele Mdoda acquired the rights to produce the first African version of the popular celebrity singing game show “Masked Singer.” The show’s first season was broadcast on SABC 3 and hosted by Mpho Pops.

Awards

Throughout her career, Anele Mdoda has received several notable accolades. In 2012, she was named “Rising Star of the Year” by Media Magazine. She also won the award for “Top South African Radio DJ” at the 27th Annual Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards. In 2017, she received the “Best Talk Show” award at the Golden Horn Awards and was honoured as the “Best Breakfast Show Host” at the South African Radio Awards in 2021.
